Over the past 15 years, Katina Brountzas has gained invaluable experience, in court while clerking for a judge, while in private practice, and in key operational roles that she brings to bear on her leadership of GCG’s complex and high-profile bankruptcy cases. Highly regarded within our organization and the industry for her ability to anticipate challenges, address issues and serve as a trusted advisor to our clients in a fast-paced environment, her experience spans a wide range of industries, from airlines, to healthcare, energy, and retail. In recent years, Ms. Brountzas has played a key role in numerous high-profile administrations, such as AMR Corporation, et al. (American Airlines), TBS Shipping Services Inc., et al., General Maritime Corporation, and American Apparel, Inc., et al. Notably, Ms. Brountzas played a lead role in GCG’s award-winning work on the chapter 11 reorganizations of Quicksilver Resources and Samson Resources.

Ms. Brountzas assists debtors and their professionals through pre-bankruptcy and all phases of a chapter 11 case administration, including complex noticing, claims processing, claim reconciliation, solicitation and distribution. Her extensive experience includes addressing issues involving secured and unsecured creditors, and ranges from chapter 7 liquidations to chapter 11 reorganizations and international cases.

She frequently works in partnership with GCG’s Notice & Media Team to boost the effectiveness of executing a communication plan throughout the restructuring process. In fact, she was instrumental in the development of the Bankruptcy Team’s communication center to provide customized communication solutions to reach various parties-in-interest, including investors, vendors, employees and creditors.

Importantly, Ms. Brountzas has developed a particular understanding of best practices for handling, processing and protecting the sensitive data in legal administrations. She regularly advises clients on the nuances related to the protection of personally identifiable information in the bankruptcy context, including noticing that may involve HIPAA and other privacy regulations. Her insight into data protections uniquely positions her to lead CLE presentations on data privacy and security in the legal administration context.
